Richard Bray

Richard Bray, BPharm (Hons), MBA, MRPharmS, FRSPH is a British clinical pharmacist/ pharmacologist and consultant to both Japanese and international pharmaceutical companies, as well as diagnostic manufacturers.

He was a US-certified Audio-Visual professional and a member of both the Presentation Design Council and Asia Pacific Councils of InfoComm International, formerly the ICIA - International Communication Industries Association.

He holds an MBA with Merit from Manchester Business School, Manchester University, U.K., specialing in International Business, International Marketing and New Media Marketing. His research project was in the field of e-Health Systems and Digital Healthcare.

 
 
   

 

 

 

 Pharmacist

 

 

From 1977, he held positions as staff, resident and chief hospital pharmacist, including nuclear medicine and membership of the pharmacy and therapeutics committees. His research interests were in adhesions/ fertility surgery and parenteral nutrition/ extemporaneous aseptic formulations.

In 1989, he spent one year teaching medical and pharmaceutical communications in Japan to research, development and marketing staff of both Japanese and foreign-affiliated drug companies.

In 1999, he established his own company, im5, to produce interactive medical, marketing, management, multimedia and market research programmes in Japan and around the world. He provides digital publishing solutions, customized medical/ marketing databases and presentations, pharmaceutical product manuals, as well as strategic planning and product training.

His current projects are in the specialities of cardiology, gastroenterology and neurology, though as a currently-registered practicing pharmacist, he is familiar with all aspects of medicine.

 
 
   
Pharmaceutical Industry
In 1990, he joined the Japanese pharmaceutical industry as an international product manager, then progressed to be appointed director of marketing services in one of the world's largest companies. During this time he had experience in all aspects of the industry from clinical trials and marketing to product launches, staff training and education; from the development and production of packaging and promotional materials to publications and national newsletters; from organising exhibitions and events to product planning and strategic management; in Japan, Asia and Central/ South America, as well as Europe and North America.  
 
   
Clinical trials
His first study was in 1979, a simple comparison of acetone-based spray dressings used in after spinal analgesia, followed by the development of a novel forumulation for the management of adhesions during surgery. Whilst in the pharmaceutical industry, he conducted international Phase IV and registration studies in the areas of gastroenterology and cardiology, as well as registration studies in Japan for diagnostic products. In 2008, he was the co-author of a study on Helicobacter pylori eradication in 200 patients, published in a Japanese medical journal.  
 
   
Audiovisual and Multimedia

He was worked with the iml audience response system since 1994, when he was instrumental in working with them to develop a system that supported the Japanese language, and purchased the first system in 1996. He has also run the system in Chinese, and is an active advocate of the use of all audience response systems in marketing, research, education, management, entertainment and multimedia. im5 support both the IR and Communicator systems.

He now provides full technical production services to events and conferences, including video, audio, lighting, staging, communications, staging, IT, satellite broadcasting, presentations and production, in both English and Japanese.

Clients are drawn from healthcare, finance and other international production companies, and projects range from simple one-day seminars to complex one-week conferences, as well as gala dinners and concerts.

He is a Member of the Royal Pharmaceutical Society of Great Britain, Fellow of the Royal Society for Public Health, Council Member of InfoComm International, member of the Society of Writers, Editors and Translators, and Alumni member of Manchester Business School and Bath University.
